Getting the basics right

Every successful business owner will mention how important it is to track and know your numbers.

Let's look at a martial arts business. What numbers do you need to know? Let's start with some simple questions:

  • How many classes are on per day/week/month?
  • Who attended?
  • Who taught them?
  • Has everyone who attended them paid?
They're just some simple and basic ones. But important and critical if you want to manage your business.

Imagine that every day you needed to create your daily timetable and then enter your student names, and check their payments, and in what generic software (in excel for example) ..?

It would take ages. And then working out if their 10-class-pass was up, or if their direct debit payment failed ... it's the stuff of nightmares!

It is exactly this scenario that Arnold does with exactly a few mouse clicks (or even less if your members use the mobile app).

Simply define your class timetable one time, and then everyday Arnold will generate the class records.

From there, once the member enrolls into a class, Arnold will check:

  • Is their membership payment up-to-date?
  • How many classes do they have left?
  • Are they even eligible for this class?
And even nice-to-haves like birthday notifications, and reminders that have been left by staff (eg to collect some lost property).

Once your members in the habit of signing in for every single class ... (and to enforce it, some martial arts schools use burpees, others a fine to charity) ... then you can easily report on it. And find out which classes make you money, and which ones cost you money.

This is Arnold and the leverage it gives you. Do the work once, get rewarded constantly!

Look at the image below ... You can see the list of the day's classes, and the currently selected class has highlights for outstanding fees (red line), sale expiry, classes until they're eligible for grade ... and even a birthday!

So, we obliged!  Here is their chart of accounts created month by month:  What do you notice? They were right!  ### Why Tracking Your Advertising Spend Is Crucial for Success In today’s digital age, advertising drives business growth, but without tracking your spend, you’re operating in the dark. Knowing where your money goes and what it achieves is essential to turning a haphazard campaign into a strategic winner. Tracking isn’t just a nice-to-have—it’s the key to maximizing every dollar you invest. First, tracking your ad spend reveals your return on investment (ROI) and highlights what’s working. You can see if a big-budget social media ad is driving sales or just racking up likes, while a smaller search ad quietly delivers results. This data lets you cut waste, shift funds to high performers, and refine your approach—plus, it uncovers audience insights, showing you who’s engaging and how to better target them. Lastly, monitoring your spend keeps you adaptable in a fast-changing landscape. Markets shift, platforms evolve, and campaigns that once worked can falter. By keeping an eye on th...
